The currency of Lebanon depreciated 90%, one of the three worst economic crises in 70 years
On July 15, local time, Lebanese prime minister-designate Hariri announced that after months of discussions, he decided not to form a new cabinet because he was unable to reach an agreement with President Aoun on the formation of a new government. Some analysts have pointed out that the political impasse may further deepen the local economic crisis. Influenced by this news, the black market exchange rate of the Lebanese pound fell rapidly from about 19,000 Lebanese pounds to 1 US dollar that morning to 20,000 Lebanese pounds to 1 US dollar. Compared to the second half of 2019, the Lebanese pound has depreciated by more than 90%.
