USA regulatory institutions are considering making concessions to reduce the capital requirements for large banks.
According to sources cited by Bloomberg on September 10, US regulatory agencies have agreed to adjust the proposed capital requirements, reducing the capital requirements for 8 globally significant US banks, including Bank of America and JPMorgan, from the original 19% increase to a significant reduction to a 9% increase. After last year's proposal was met with strong opposition from the banking industry, it is believed that this revised proposal will gain more support from the banks. Michael Barr, Vice Chairman of the Federal Reserve in charge of supervision, is expected to announce the latest adjustments today on the 10th.
