On January 28, Gelonghui reported that Coca-Cola Company is undertaking a large-scale recall of drinks such as Coca-Cola, Sprite, and Fanta sold in Europe due to excessive chlorate levels. Coca-Cola's partners in Europe stated that the involved canned and Glass bottled drinks have been sold in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg since the end of November last year, urging the public not to consume them and saying that unsold products will be removed from the market. Coca-Cola apologized for the incident, noting that an issue was discovered during routine inspections at its plant located in Ghent, Belgium. In food, chlorates mostly originate from Food Processing and treated drinking water.
