UOB: The risk of downward movement in the yield of U.S. 10-year treasury notes is greater.
On July 5th, Quek Ser Leang, UOB's global economic and market research strategist, said that from the weekly chart, the yield on 10-year US Treasury notes is expected to fluctuate in the range of 4.137% to 4.622%. Although there is a possibility of further increase in yields, the mild upward trend indicates that any increase in yields is unlikely to be significantly higher than the level of 4.622%, as the downward trendline connecting the high points of October 2023 and May 2024 is close to 4.622%. In addition, the bottom of the Ichimoku cloud, 4.137%, still remains.
UOB: Concerns over slowing inflation progress from the Fed.
On July 4th, Guosen Securities reported that Alvin Liew, senior economist at UOB, pointed out that the minutes of the June meeting of the Federal Reserve showed that policymakers at the Federal Reserve were concerned about slower-than-expected progress in inflation compared to their expectations in December last year. Although the minutes of the meeting indicated that Federal Reserve policymakers "emphasized the importance of adjusting future policy decisions based on forthcoming data, evolving economic outlooks, and risk assessments," there was some inconsistency in their views on the time/extent of maintaining policy.
