OpenAI, Meta, and telecommunications operator Orange SA collaborate to customize an AI model for African languages.
On November 26, according to CNBC, OpenAI and Meta will start training ai large models with African languages to address the shortage of models for thousands of dialects across the African continent. The project also involves French telecommunications operator Orange SA and is set to launch in the first half of next year. Initially, the company will focus on two West African languages: Wolof and Pulaar, which are spoken by 22 million people in the region. Orange SA ultimately hopes to expand the project to more ai technology companies to build large language models to assist with customers in 18 markets in the Middle East and Africa.
