Inflation in the euro zone rises to its highest level in a decade the temporary view of the ECB's price rise has been put to the test.
Inflation in the eurozone rose to its highest level in a decade in August, testing policymakers' view that the rise in inflationary pressures after the crisis was temporary. Euro-zone consumer prices (CPI) rose 3% year-on-year, exceeding the expectations of all 37 economists surveyed by Bloomberg. Core inflation, which excludes volatile items such as energy and food, rose 1.6 per cent from a year earlier, the highest since 2012. While global supply constraints are pushing up costs, the surge in prices in the eurozone has also been driven by one-off factors, such as lower figures for the same period last year. The European Central Bank believes that the rise in inflation is temporary.
Samsung suspends production of Galaxy S21 FE due to chip shortage
Samsung Electronics has suspended production of a mid-range smartphone because of chip shortages, in the latest sign of semiconductor supply problems, according to people familiar with the matter. Samsung suspended production of the Galaxy S21 FE (Fan Edition) because of a shortage of Qualcomm's application processors, according to industry insiders. The company had planned to launch the lower-priced Galaxy S21 in August. A Samsung spokesman declined to comment. Samsung had previously warned that it was grappling with the consequences of a "serious imbalance" in the global supply of semiconductors. Given the chip shortage, it may not be possible, according to people familiar with the matter.
