The USA satellite television providers DirecTV and Dish are once again in talks to merge.
According to Reuters on September 14, a source revealed that the telecommunications operator AT&T and its joint venture partner TPG are in preliminary talks, preparing to merge its DirecTV satellite television service with Dish, owned by EchoStar. The two companies attempted to merge as early as 2002, but were blocked by the US Department of Justice. If the negotiations are successful, the combined entity will have approximately 16 million users, becoming the largest pay TV service provider in the USA.
