According to Reuters on December 3, exxon mobil spokesperson said on Monday that the company and its partners are continuing negotiations with the government of Guyana on the terms of developing a shallow water oil block. exxon mobil, hess corp, and CNOOC won the S8 offshore block in a round of tenders launched by the government of President Irfaan Ali of Iran by the end of 2022. The exxon mobil spokesperson stated that the group is still interested in the block, and negotiations are ongoing. The spokesperson declined to disclose whether the company intends to use the block for carbon capture and storage or for oil & gas exploration.
