ECB Commissioner Stournaras urges central banks to be cautious about surging inflation
ECB Governing Council member Yannis Stournaras said that as the central bank prepares for next week's policy decisions, the soaring inflation rate in the Eurozone should not be overinterpreted. “According to most estimates, the recent surge in inflation is due to temporary factors which are related to the many supply-side bottlenecks caused by the pandemic,” he said. “Wage changes and unit labor costs, which determine the core inflation rate, do not show the same volatility as the overall inflation rate,” he said. “Therefore, based on this evidence, I would like to suggest that we be cautious when judging the direction of inflation relative to the medium-term target

Andrew Sheets, chief cross-asset strategist at Morgan Stanley, wrote: Being a borrower rather than a lender, the obvious things are still important. Judging by several indicators, now is a good time to borrow money. Despite what we've noticed, “very low yield” has been a constant cry for the past 10 years. But today we're seeing borrowing costs, capabilities, and needs combined in a unique way. Let's start with the cost of borrowing. European corporate bond yields are at historic lows, and American companies have been unable to borrow at such a low cost since 1955. from the US
Jackson Hole's annual meeting is slightly cold, and the presidents of the European Central Bank and the Bank of England will not attend
An ECB spokesperson said that ECB President Lagarde will not attend the high-profile Jackson Hole (Jackson Hole) annual central bank meeting at the end of August. The media reported earlier that Bank of England Governor Bailey would not attend either. The paper quoted a Bank of England spokesperson as saying that due to limited capacity, the organizers were “focusing on the US domestic invitation list.” More and more people speculate that Federal Reserve Chairman Powell may deliver a speech at the Jackson Hole annual meeting of central bank governors, implying that the Federal Reserve is preparing to begin easing monetary support. The conference was held in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
