Hawaiian Electrical Utilities has developed a plan to strengthen the electrical grid to reduce wildfire risks.
On January 14, Glorify reported that the electrical utilities provider, Hawaiian Electric Company, announced a plan to strengthen the power grid on Monday to help reduce the risk of wildfires caused by its equipment. The utility has faced intense scrutiny for its role in the deadly Maui wildfires in 2023. Hawaiian Electric Company stated that the plan will cost approximately $0.45 billion between 2025 and 2027, with a work budget of $0.137 billion for this year. The company added that part of the expenses has been funded through existing programs, including federal grants received in 2024.
